Visakhapatnam is poised for a transformative shift in its hospitality and tourism scene, led by a surge in luxury hotel development plans. Among the most notable projects is the complete redevelopment of The Gateway Hotel, one of the city’s iconic star-rated establishments, currently under the ownership of Varun Group.

In a landmark move, Varun Group has announced the imminent demolition of the existing structure, marking the close of an era. Occupying a premium three-acre site directly across from the bustling RK Beach, The Gateway will soon be replaced by a state-of-the-art complex composed of three sleek towers. This ambitious project, backed by an investment of approximately Rs 500 crore, is set to redefine Visakhapatnam’s skyline and spark extensive infrastructure improvements in the area. The new development will host a five-star hotel alongside premium office spaces, high-end retail outlets, and serviced apartments, positioning itself as a multifaceted hub for luxury and convenience in the city.

Industry experts suggest that Visakhapatnam may soon become a prominent destination for luxury tourism. The state government has allocated 40 acres of land near Bheemunipatnam to the Oberoi Group, where a luxury resort is already underway, with the foundation stone laid.

Additionally, the Taj Group is actively scouting premier sites around Bheemunipatnam, Bhogapuram, and Atchuthapuram for the development of new upscale hotels. Land has also been earmarked for a project by Mayfair Hotels and Resorts near Bheemili. Should these ambitious projects materialize, Visakhapatnam could establish itself as a premier choice for discerning travelers seeking high-end experiences.

Varun Group’s chairman, Prabhu Kishore, elaborated on the redevelopment vision for The Gateway and highlighted Visakhapatnam’s immense potential as a top-tier tourist destination. He pointed out that Visakhapatnam has a distinct edge, with an uninterrupted 32-kilometer coastline extending to Bheemunipatnam, unmatched by any other city in India. According to him, this vast area could easily support an additional 10 to 15 star-rated hotels within a 50-kilometer radius. Realizing this vision could significantly reshape and elevate the city’s tourism industry.
