A captivating “Ao dai” exhibition, showcasing Vietnam’s traditional and contemporary styles, stood out as a key feature of Vietnam Culture Day 2024, recently hosted in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.
This yearly celebration was collaboratively organized by the Vietnamese Students’ Associations across New Zealand and Wellington, the Vietnamese Association in Wellington, and the Vietnamese Embassy. It aimed to enhance the visibility of Vietnamese culture and boost tourism within the Oceania region.
The event highlighted the dynamic spirit and ingenuity of Vietnamese students. Carefully prepared performances seamlessly integrated classical and modern elements, including folk melodies, dances, and instrumental pieces, effectively bringing Vietnam’s cultural essence to an international audience.
Notable moments featured individual and pair vocal acts alongside traditional dance performances that animated well-known Vietnamese rhythms on stage. A special highlight of this edition was the introduction of a new dance group from the Vietnamese Women’s Community Association in Wellington, which was established earlier in 2024.
Vietnamese expatriates in New Zealand had the opportunity to present their rich cultural heritage to local Wellington residents and international students, celebrating Vietnam’s traditions. Additionally, this year marked the 15th anniversary of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in Wellington, a pivotal organization within the Vietnamese student community in New Zealand, playing a significant role in promoting Vietnam’s cultural heritage globally.
