Vietnam and Singapore expand aviation ties as Vietjet launches a new Phu Quoc route and secures a three hundred million dollar aircraft financing deal.
During an official visit by Vietnam’s General Secretary To Lam to Singapore, Vietjet unveiled a major expansion initiative, launching a new direct route between Singapore and Phu Quoc while securing a three hundred million dollar aircraft financing agreement with Carlyle Aviation Partners. This strategic move strengthens air connectivity between Singapore and Vietnam and accelerates sustainable growth in the region.
Expanding Air Travel Singapore to Phu Quoc
Vietjet’s new direct flight between Singapore and Phu Quoc is set to commence operations on May 30, 2025, with four weekly round-trip flights. This expansion increases the airline’s total weekly flights between the two countries to seventy-eight. With the addition of this route, Vietjet now operates four direct services to Singapore, complementing its flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang. The airline anticipates this expansion will accommodate over five hundred thousand passengers annually.
Since launching its Singapore-Ho Chi Minh City service in 2014, Vietjet has facilitated more than sixteen thousand flights and transported over two point six million passengers between Vietnam and Singapore. The new Phu Quoc connection is expected to boost tourism, strengthen economic partnerships, and enhance cultural exchanges.
Three Hundred Million Dollar Aircraft Financing Agreement
In a parallel move, Vietjet secured a three hundred million dollar financing deal with Carlyle Aviation Partners to support the delivery of new aircraft between 2025 and 2026. This agreement marks a significant step in Vietjet’s long-term strategy to expand its modern fleet, which includes an order backlog exceeding four hundred aircraft.
Carlyle Aviation Partners, the aviation-focused division of The Carlyle Group, currently manages a portfolio of three hundred sixty-three aircraft across fifty-three countries. The Carlyle Group, a global investment powerhouse with assets exceeding four hundred forty-seven billion dollars, plays a crucial role in strengthening the aviation industry’s global supply chain.
Strengthening Operational Efficiency with Airbus
Further solidifying its fleet management strategy, Vietjet has partnered with Satair, an Airbus Services company, under a multi-year Integrated Material Services (IMS) agreement. Through this collaboration, Satair will provide essential consignment stock and pooling support for Vietjet’s Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
Vietjet’s Global Commitment
With a fleet of over one hundred fifteen aircraft and a track record of transporting more than two hundred thirty million passengers, Vietjet remains a leading force in the aviation sector. As Singapore stands as Vietnam’s top investor with investments surpassing eighty-four point five billion dollars, Vietjet’s ongoing partnerships with Singaporean firms contribute significantly to financial, trade, and technological advancements. This expansion marks a pivotal moment in fostering deeper economic ties and sustainable growth between the two nations.
