Vietnam Airlines is set to relaunch key international routes, including destinations in Russia, India and Italy, strengthening its global network and expanding connectivity.

In May, Vietnam Airlines will achieve a significant milestone with the reopening of several key international routes.

The Hanoi-Moscow route, which had been suspended for three years due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, will resume with two weekly flights initially. This route is crucial in strengthening ties between Vietnam and Russia, while revitalizing both the aviation and tourism industries.

Additionally, the airline will launch two new services to India, starting with the Hanoi-Bengaluru route on May 1, followed by the Hanoi-Hyderabad route on May 7. Each of these routes will operate three or four round-trip flights per week.

Vietnam Airlines has already seen success in the Indian market, having previously flown over 240,000 passengers on 1,600 flights to Delhi and Mumbai.

In June, the airline will debut the Ho Chi Minh City-Bali route with four weekly flights. Then, in July, Vietnam Airlines will become the first Vietnamese carrier to offer direct flights between Hanoi and Milan, Italy, with three weekly round-trip flights.

The airline continues to operate direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to major European destinations, including Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, and London. Looking ahead to 2025, Vietnam Airlines plans to launch 15 new international routes to regions such as Russia, Italy, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the UAE.

Meanwhile, Vietjet is rapidly expanding its network to China and Europe. This month, the airline launched new routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. In India, Vietjet introduced two new routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hyderabad and Bangalore on March 18 and 19, respectively.

Vietjet has also increased its weekly flights to Japan, offering 138 weekly services to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima. On May 30, it will begin operating a route between Singapore and Phu Quoc, with four weekly flights.

Other Vietnamese carriers, such as Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines, are focusing on domestic routes due to fleet limitations. However, these airlines have recently expanded their fleets by adding over 10 new aircraft, increasing the total fleet size to over 200.

International carriers are also eyeing the Vietnamese market. Ethiopian Airlines, a leading African airline, plans to launch a new Addis Ababa-Hanoi route on July 10, offering four weekly flights. The Russian market is also seeing a revival, with several cities in Russia, including Moscow, Barnaul, and Vladivostok, launching charter flights to Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province this month.
