Vande Bharat Express debuts between Ahmedabad and Udaipur, offering swift luxury travel, enhanced connectivity, and a significant boost to regional tourism.

Indian Railways is preparing to launch a new Vande Bharat Express to connect Ahmedabad and Udaipur, enhancing the rail network between the two destinations. This development follows the successful electrification of the Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Udaipur route. The high-speed train is expected to commence operations by late January or early February, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable travel alternative.

Schedule and Operating Days

The train will run six days a week, with Tuesdays as a non-operational day. Departing from Udaipur at 6:10 am, it will reach Ahmedabad by 10:25 am, including a brief two-minute stop at Himmatnagar. The return journey will start from Ahmedabad at 5:45 pm, arriving in Udaipur by 10:00 pm. The train will operate out of the Asarwa railway station in Ahmedabad as its primary terminal.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

Featuring eight air-conditioned chair car coaches, the Vande Bharat Express aims to provide passengers with a premium travel experience. The journey will take approximately four hours, significantly shorter than the five-hour road trip between the cities. For travelers from the Mewar region, the train offers an added advantage of convenient access to Ahmedabad’s airport, simplifying onward journeys.

Boost to Regional Tourism

The new service has been warmly welcomed by tourism professionals in Udaipur, who foresee a positive impact on the city’s tourism and pilgrimage sectors. Iconic attractions such as the Shrinathji and Eklingji temples are expected to see increased footfall. Industry experts have suggested adjusting the train’s timings to better align with hotel check-in schedules and temple visiting hours for added convenience.

Mannalal Ravat, Udaipur’s Lok Sabha representative, has commended the initiative and advocated for the service to be extended to cities like Indore and Surat, potentially improving connectivity for an even larger audience.

Addressing Passenger Concerns

While the initiative has been praised, some passengers have raised concerns about the current schedule and stops. There have been calls to include Daungarpur as an additional stop, which would benefit a larger number of travelers along the route.
