Imagine staying in touch with your loved ones online—completely free—while soaring thousands of feet in the air to destinations like the USA, Brazil, or Japan. Lufthansa is making this a reality. Starting this summer, the airline will offer passengers unlimited complimentary messaging on all its intercontinental flights.

This exciting feature allows travelers to send and receive an unlimited number of messages, including photos, during their flight. Whether you’re chatting on popular apps or sharing moments in real time, you can do it all seamlessly on your smartphone or tablet. The best part? It’s available to passengers across all travel classes.

With this initiative, Lufthansa is enhancing the in-flight experience, ensuring that connectivity doesn’t stop when you’re in the air. So, whether you’re catching up with friends, sharing memories with family, or staying connected for work, Lufthansa’s free messaging service ensures you’re always in touch—no matter where you’re flying.

“The introduction of free messaging on long-haul flights is another important step in continuously improving our customers’ overall travel experience,” says Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer Lufthansa Group. ”We will continue to focus our efforts on services that are highly relevant to our customers.”

“What is already a great success on short and medium-haul flights will also be very popular with our guests on long-haul flights,” says Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer at Lufthansa Airlines. “Being reachable even during a long flight has long been a basic need and a decisive factor when choosing an airline. Free messages, as well as in-flight internet, for example, therefore offer a portfolio of digital services that is very attractive to our customers.”

SWISS and Austrian Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, now provide free messaging on select long-haul flights. Since 2024, this service has been available on Lufthansa’s short- and medium-haul routes, as well as on numerous Austrian Airlines aircraft, where it has already proven to be highly successful.
