Ottawa braces for up to 10 cm of snow. Travel disruptions likely as winter storm hits.
As temperatures rise in the capital, residents are bracing for potential travel disruptions due to an incoming snowstorm. Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Ottawa, predicting snow accumulation of 5-10 cm throughout Thursday, which may transition to freezing drizzle by the afternoon.
The mercury is set to peak at approximately -7°C, although wind chills could plummet to -29, moderating to -10 as winds diminish.
By Thursday evening, the intensity of the snowstorm is anticipated to decrease, yet there remains a possibility of snow squalls into the night.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution, reduce speed, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles due to the slippery conditions forecasted.
Windy conditions will persist into Thursday night, with speeds reaching 30 km/h and gusts up to 50 km/h around midnight.
Weather conditions are expected to ameliorate on Friday, featuring intermittent sunshine and clouds along with a 40% chance of light snow. Despite a forecasted high of -4°C, brisk winds may intensify the chill to feel as cold as -15°C.
