During a press conference at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, officials highlighted the significant role of Tehran tourism in driving economic growth, preserving cultural identity, and strengthening diplomatic relations. The tourism sector aims to maximize diverse opportunities, including culinary, health, coastal, and family tourism.
Tourism as a Key Economic and Diplomatic Tool
The ministry underscored tourism’s contribution to job creation and foreign exchange earnings. Additionally, promoting Iran’s historical and cultural heritage strengthens national identity.
Tourism also offers diplomatic advantages, fostering international interactions when other channels may be less effective. Officials emphasized that developing the sector serves as an effective strategy to counter negative international portrayals, with the upcoming exhibition positioned to showcase Iran as a safe and attractive destination for global travelers.
Expanding International Participation
This year’s exhibition will be significantly larger, covering 55,000 square meters to address past space limitations. Over eight international delegations have confirmed attendance, and 14 countries—including Turkey, Qatar, Malaysia, Thailand, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Madagascar, and the UAE—will participate with dedicated pavilions.
The exhibition will feature 20 educational workshops led by 27 experts, 10 specialized panels on various tourism sectors, and designated areas for scientific and academic associations. Additionally, a selection of students, serving as honorary cultural ambassadors, will introduce Iran’s attractions to international visitors.
Grand Opening with 500 Distinguished Guests
The opening ceremony will welcome 500 domestic and international guests. As part of efforts to promote tourism awareness, free entry has been arranged for students and university attendees.
Incentives for Affordable Tourism
To encourage budget-friendly travel, the government has introduced tax exemptions for one- to three-star hotels, aiming to prevent price hikes and make travel more accessible. Discussions have also been held with pension funds and the hotel industry to facilitate affordable tourism packages. Agreements with the Welfare Organization will further support families with disabled members by providing reduced travel costs.
Encouraging Green Energy in Tourism Facilities
New incentives have been announced for newly constructed hotels to adopt renewable energy sources, aligning with national sustainability goals.
Focus on Innovation and Startups
Recognizing the importance of innovation in tourism, the exhibition will feature a dedicated hall for startups. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, school tours will also be organized to enhance tourism awareness among students.
Officials emphasized three essential elements for tourism development: attraction, security, and infrastructure. Iran expects to benefit significantly from its diverse range of tourist sites, including bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, bathhouses, madrasas, mausoleums, churches, towers, and mansions, with 28 of these sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
