Sydney, London and Los Angeles: Qantas fully restores its Airbus A380 fleet by 2025, bringing back ultimate luxury, comfort, and superjumbo dominance.

Qantas to Fully Reactivate Its Airbus A380 Fleet by 2025

Qantas is set to bring its entire Airbus A380 fleet back into service, marking the full return of its superjumbo operations. The airline, which grounded its A380s during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been progressively reinstating the aircraft as demand rebounds.

Prior to the pandemic, Qantas operated 12 A380s, but after an extended grounding period, the first of these returned to service in November 2021. Currently, eight A380s are flying, while two remain in storage and two have been retired, according to Cirium Fleet Analyzer data.

Initially planning to return its final A380 to service by 2026, Qantas has accelerated its timeline, now confirming that both remaining aircraft will resume operations by 2025.

As part of its superjumbo revival, Qantas is also expanding A380 routes. Beginning August 2025, the airline will resume A380 flights between Sydney and Dallas/Fort Worth, enhancing its long-haul network with high-capacity aircraft.

This move aligns with Qantas’ broader fleet strategy, ensuring that its flagship A380s continue to serve key international routes amid growing travel demand.
