Star Hotels, a subsidiary of Star Group, has broadened its portfolio in Queensland by acquiring the Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel. The transaction, orchestrated by Wayne Bunz, National Director of CBRE Hotels, was conducted via an exclusive, invitation-only campaign.
This acquisition marks the second investment by the company in the Gold Coast hospitality market. With this addition, Star Group now oversees 50 licensed premises, over 115 retail liquor outlets, and six lodging properties throughout Queensland.
Located in a region noted for its robust growth and tourism resilience, the Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel is ideally situated to attract both local and international tourists, promising sustained demand for Star Group’s services.
The purchase is in line with Star Group’s strategy to extend its reach into flourishing regions, leveraging the strong hospitality sector of the Gold Coast.
The hotel was developed by the renowned hotelier John “Foxy” Robinson, who is celebrated for his work on properties like the Darwin Airport Resort and Darwin Airport Inn. Opened in 2020, the seven-story hotel offers 192 rooms and suites, and features such as the Runway Italian Restaurant, The Salty Fox Rooftop Bar, 10 conference and event spaces, a swimming pool, a fitness center, and extensive parking facilities.
The tourism industry in the Gold Coast is enjoying a surge due to increased international arrivals. According to CBRE’s studies, domestic tourism is expected to maintain the stability of the average daily rate (ADR).
Further enhancements to the Gold Coast Airport, including the development of a retail village, a health and wellness hub, and a conference and technology center, are anticipated to boost the hotel’s appeal and success in the foreseeable future.
