Spirit Airlines is making significant upgrades to its services, aiming to meet the growing demand for added comfort and enhanced value. The airline is introducing a revamped seating class and expanding its Free Spirit loyalty program to provide passengers with more premium benefits, signaling a shift toward offering a better in-flight experience while maintaining its low-cost model.

Starting in June 2025, Spirit Airlines will roll out an improved version of its “Go Comfy” fare class, featuring new extra-legroom seats. These updated seats will offer an additional four inches of legroom, increasing the seat pitch to 32 inches, ensuring passengers have more space for a more comfortable journey. In a bid to enhance overall comfort, Spirit will equip its aircraft with seven rows of the new Go Comfy seats, resulting in 40 additional extra-legroom seats on each plane. The airline is targeting the completion of fleet updates by July 2025, allowing a majority of its planes to offer these new seating options.

Customers can begin booking flights with the updated seats starting May 19, 2025, with travel set to begin on July 9, 2025. In addition to the extra legroom, the Go Comfy fare will offer a comprehensive package of benefits, including a carry-on bag, priority boarding, flexible changes and cancellations, a complimentary snack, non-alcoholic beverages, and reserved overhead bin space, ensuring a more seamless and comfortable travel experience.

Spirit is also expanding the Free Spirit loyalty program, enabling members to redeem points for premium seating options like Go Comfy and Go Big fares. The Go Big fare offers even more perks, including a free checked bag and Wi-Fi, giving travelers the flexibility to enjoy an enhanced flying experience. By offering more ways to use points, Spirit is making it easier for loyal customers to enjoy added comfort and convenience while flying with the airline.

Frequent flyers with elite status or those who hold the Free Spirit credit card will receive complimentary upgrades to Spirit’s Big Front Seat, which provides the airline’s most spacious seating, or to the Comfy Seat, depending on availability. These upgrades will be available for the cardholder and one accompanying guest, allowing both to benefit from a premium in-flight experience.

Spirit’s future plans also include the introduction of a co-branded Free Spirit Debit Card, slated for release later in 2025. This new card will offer cardholders priority boarding in group two and a 25% rebate on inflight purchases, providing additional value to customers. In addition, holders of the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard will be entitled to two free checked bags starting later in 2025, adding further benefits to the loyalty program for frequent travelers.

These updates are part of Spirit Airlines’ broader strategy to provide a more varied range of services to meet the needs of both budget-conscious travelers and those seeking additional comfort. Since emerging from bankruptcy earlier this year, Spirit has been working to diversify its offerings, responding to the rising demand for premium services as more travelers seek extra comfort during their flights. The airline is adapting to market trends, where low-cost carriers are finding success in blending affordability with premium options.

By introducing extra-legroom seating, enhancing its loyalty program, and offering more perks for loyal passengers, Spirit Airlines is positioning itself to appeal to a wider range of customers. The new initiatives are designed to balance the airline’s low-cost roots with the demand for a higher level of comfort and convenience. This strategy aims to meet the needs of customers who seek both value and comfort when traveling, ensuring that Spirit remains competitive in an increasingly complex market.

Through these upgrades, Spirit is responding to the evolving preferences of travelers and offering a competitive mix of affordable yet premium services, creating an opportunity for the airline to attract a more diverse customer base. The airline’s efforts reflect the changing landscape of air travel, where even budget carriers are offering more comfort, flexibility, and added value to meet the demands of today’s discerning travelers.
