Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines

Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines (SIA) are set to increase flight frequencies between Jakarta, Indonesia, and Singapore in the fourth quarter of 2024, significantly enhancing capacity and connectivity between these major Southeast Asian hubs.

Starting from 22 November 2024, SIA will raise its daily services from six to eight, while Garuda Indonesia will expand its operations from four daily flights to six as of 1 December 2024.

These expanded services will be added to the airlines’ existing codeshare agreement. Currently, Garuda Indonesia and SIA codeshare on flights between Singapore and four Indonesian cities (Denpasar, Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya), as well as on routes linking Singapore with London (Heathrow) and Mumbai. By 1 December 2024, the airlines will offer a combined 390 weekly codeshare services, with 362 between Singapore and Indonesia alone.

In early 2025, the two airlines plan to enhance their frequent flyer partnership, allowing members of GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer programs to earn and redeem miles on codeshare flights.

Following Singapore’s regulatory approval of their commercial joint venture in July 2024, Garuda Indonesia and SIA will launch joint fare products in the first quarter of 2025. This new offering will allow customers to book flights operated by both carriers between Singapore and key Indonesian cities—Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya—under a single itinerary.

The airlines remain committed to strengthening their commercial partnership to deliver greater value for customers and support tourism and business between Indonesia and Singapore. Future collaborations may include revenue-sharing flights, optimized flight schedules for enhanced connectivity, and joint sales and marketing efforts.

Mr Irfan Setiaputra, President and Chief Executive Officer, Garuda Indonesia, said: “Singapore has been an important market and destination for Garuda Indonesia especially considering the significant traffic growth between Indonesia and Singapore over the years. This route development is a part of our ongoing effort to respond to the market demand, as well as our commitment in providing seamless connectivity especially for Garuda Indonesia’s passengers to access various destinations served by Singapore Airlines especially to Europe and Asia. Moreover, this partnership is also a part of our longstanding initiative to support national tourism post-pandemic by providing access to many exotic destinations in Indonesia.”

Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Airlines, said: “We appreciate the authorities’ approval to increase services between Singapore and Jakarta. Our strategic partnership with Garuda Indonesia will provide additional seamless flight options between these key hubs and beyond, while bringing greater value and enhancing service offerings for our customers.

“Both airlines are committed to continue strengthening this important win-win relationship in coming years. Our collaboration will help to boost travel connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore, creating a positive impact on tourism and economic activity in both countries.”
