Sabre Corporation, a global leader in software and technology for the travel industry, has unveiled its 2024 Sustainability Report, showcasing the company’s dedication to sustainability through its newly introduced Travel Positive strategy. This approach emphasizes three pillars: People, Planet, and Prosperity.
A significant highlight of Sabre’s sustainability efforts is its submission of a commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), demonstrating its intent to align with the Paris Agreement’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Over the next two years, Sabre plans to establish both mid- and long-term targets to cut emissions based on scientific benchmarks.
For the first time, Sabre has disclosed its scope 3 emissions across five categories in this year’s report. Notably, Sabre became the pioneer in using the Travel Impact Model developed by Google and Travalyst to measure business travel emissions. This cutting-edge model, applied to Sabre’s 2023 business travel data, offers valuable insights into the company’s environmental impact and paves the way for focused initiatives to curb emissions, reflecting Sabre’s commitment to the Planet.
“Throughout 2023 and into 2024, we have made meaningful strides in our sustainability journey,” said Kurt Ekert, CEO and President Sabre. “Our new Travel Positive strategy is our framework for helping to create a more sustainable future for the travel industry and the communities it serves. Centered around three pillars – People, Planet and Prosperity – it has already helped guide us in making impactful changes in our business. By focusing on setting science-based goals, investing in innovative technologies, and partnering with industry leaders, we expect to play an important role in creating meaningful impact for the long-term sustainability of travel.”
The report also highlights Sabre’s influential partnerships driving its sustainability mission, including its active role in the Travalyst coalition. This coalition aims to make sustainability information more accessible for travelers during the booking process. Additionally, Sabre has integrated several sustainability enhancements into its core products, reinforcing its Prosperity pillar and the company’s belief in the importance of collaboration for a more sustainable future.
Focusing on the People pillar, Sabre’s 2024 report emphasizes its strengthened support for its workforce, with expansions to its inclusion groups and the introduction of a Sustainability Community of Practice—regional teams dedicated to advancing the company’s sustainability objectives. Sabre is also preparing to launch the Travel Positive Program, an educational platform offering sustainability training to all employees.
