Ryanair is all set to make summer 2025 even brighter for Norwich travelers, with the announcement of three exciting holiday routes to popular destinations: Alicante, Faro, and Malta. Adding to the appeal, the airline is increasing the frequency of its Alicante route, providing even more flexibility for holidaymakers and ensuring affordable, regular connections to these sought-after spots—all while maintaining Europe’s lowest fares.
However, as Ryanair continues to expand its offerings and drive tourism in the UK, it raises concerns over a new government policy that threatens to dampen growth. The Labour government, despite its rhetoric on championing economic expansion, has imposed a £2 per passenger increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD) for short-haul flights from 2026. Ryanair warns this move will not only hinder the UK’s competitiveness but also undermine tourism growth and regional development.
This increase in APD will make it even harder for ordinary British families to afford holidays abroad, while also discouraging international visitors who might instead flock to countries like Sweden, Hungary, and Italy, which are actively reducing aviation taxes and lowering airport fees to fuel growth.
Ryanair is calling for immediate action from the government, urging Rachel Reeves to scrap this harmful tax hike to unlock vital economic growth and tourism opportunities across the UK. The airline firmly believes that abolishing the APD increase would provide a much-needed boost to the country’s regions and make the UK a more attractive destination for travelers.
Ryanair’s Head of Communications, Jade Kirwan, said: “Ryanair is pleased to announce our Summer 2025 schedule for Norwich, with 3 exciting routes to choose from this summer, including popular summer holiday destinations, Alicante, Faro, and Malta with extra frequencies added to our Alicante route providing Ryanair’s UK customers with more choice and regular connections at the lowest fares in Europe.
While this is great news for UK passengers looking to get away to soak up some sun this summer, Ryanair could be growing more rapidly to/from the UK, but Rachel Reeves’ bizarre decision to raise APD taxes by £2 per passenger damages these growth prospects, and in particular regional UK airports. If the UK Govt. wants to deliver growth, they should abolish their penal and damaging APD tax, which makes the UK uncompetitive when EU countries like Hungary, Ireland, Sweden and regions in Italy are abolishing aviation taxes, and winning dramatic traffic, tourism, and jobs growth from the UK as a result.”
