A travel agency in Russia has started promoting tours to North Korea’s newly developed Kalma tourist zone, located on the country’s east coast. This initiative could make Russians among the first foreign visitors to experience the area, as highlighted by the company’s recent social media updates.

Vostok Intur, a tour operator based in Vladivostok that specializes in organizing trips to North Korea, revealed plans for three scheduled tours to the Wonsan-Kalma resort. The tours are set to begin in early July, with the agency encouraging travelers to take part in the program, according to a Telegram update posted on Tuesday.

The travel program spans eight days, with the first tour set to run from July 7 to July 14, followed by two additional tours planned for August. The package is priced at $1,400, with extra costs to be covered in Russian rubles.

The price includes accommodations for seven nights, three daily meals, round-trip flights, and guided tours of Pyongyang during the return journey, as outlined in the agency’s announcement.

North Korea recently unveiled its coastal tourist zone, opening in June after a decade of construction. This development is believed to be part of efforts to attract foreign currency amid ongoing international sanctions.

During an inspection visit with his daughter, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un commended the site, calling it a “spectacular, beautiful, and magnificent” milestone in the country’s push to advance its tourism sector.
