Radisson Hotel Group is reinforcing its position as a dominant force in Africa’s hospitality sector, having secured the highest number of hotel openings across the continent in 2024, according to W Hospitality Group’s “From Pipeline to Reality” report. Riding this wave of success into early 2025, the Group has officially entered the Democratic Republic of Congo market with two major hotel signings and further expanded its footprint in Central Africa by signing the Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Over the past fifteen months, Radisson Hotel Group has achieved eleven new hotel signings and opened seven properties, adding more than two thousand rooms under contract and over fifteen hundred rooms currently operational, with a significant portion coming from strategic conversions. This impressive growth solidifies Radisson as Africa’s leading hotel company, boasting a diverse portfolio of one hundred hotels spanning more than thirty countries. The expansion underscores the Group’s targeted growth plan, strong collaborations with local partners, and continued excellence in transforming properties to meet market demands.

“In line with our global achievements, over the last 15 months, we have achieved remarkable growth across Africa. We expanded into new markets like Tanzania, Conakry, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, further cementing our position as the most diverse hotel company across the continent in terms of country presence,” said Ramsay Rankoussi, Vice President, Development, Africa and Turkiye, Radisson Hotel Group. “Our pipeline remained the most active in the industry, driving sustained momentum and once again highlighting the quality of our partners and a clear strategy. Once again, we are proud to see our group leading the rankings in Africa. We celebrate these successes and look forward to unlocking continued economic value across the continent.”

Radisson Hotel Group Expands Strategic Footprint and Accelerates Growth Across Africa

Radisson Hotel Group is advancing its presence in Cameroon with the recent agreement to develop Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments in Yaoundé. This 150-room property is slated to launch by late 2026 and will be strategically positioned in the bustling central business district of the capital city, just a half-hour drive from Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport.

The upcoming hotel will offer an array of dynamic dining options, including a Lobby Bar, an All-Day Dining Restaurant, and a Specialty Restaurant, designed to cater to diverse tastes. It will also boast 1,350 square meters of versatile event and meeting spaces, complemented by upscale wellness amenities such as a spa, fitness center, and a rooftop pool with a spacious deck. This development is poised to become a premier destination in Yaoundé, further solidifying Radisson’s growing footprint in Cameroon, especially alongside its expanding presence in the important Douala market.

Beyond Cameroon, Radisson Hotel Group is reinforcing its commitment to key African regions with ambitious targets:

  • In Morocco, the Group aims to establish thirty hotels by 2030, building on a strong pipeline of projects already underway.
  • In South Africa, Radisson plans to double its current portfolio, setting a goal of twenty-five properties by 2030.
  • In Nigeria, the Group continues to accelerate its expansion with multiple developments while enhancing its West African reach through its new ventures in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This strategic growth underscores Radisson Hotel Group’s dedication to strengthening its position as a leading hospitality brand across the African continent.

“While geographical diversification remains a priority for us, we also see a clear opportunity to consolidate our presence across key markets such as Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa, each with at least one opening scheduled in 2025. Our results reinforce our brand strength and ability to adapt and grow across diverse markets. We remain committed to expanding our footprint while delivering world-class hospitality experiences across Africa,” concluded Rankoussi.
