Qatar Airways has reached a significant milestone by installing Starlink’s high-speed internet on its 30th aircraft, marking a major achievement for the airline and the aviation industry as a whole. This installation now covers over 50% of Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777 fleet, continuing the airline’s rapid advancements in in-flight connectivity. This accomplishment comes just four months after the carrier launched the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-enabled flight, and it surpasses its initial 2024 goal of 12 installations by upgrading 15 aircraft with the satellite-based service.
Outpacing its competitors, Qatar Airways has revolutionized the installation process for Starlink technology. The airline has drastically reduced installation times, now completing each aircraft upgrade in just 9.5 hours, a dramatic decrease from the previously required two to three days. By completing these installations within a precise 12-hour overnight window, the airline ensures minimal disruption to its operations, keeping flight schedules on track while advancing in-flight connectivity at record speed.
Speaking at Web Summit Qatar 2025, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “We are delivering on our commitment to provide our passengers the best in-flight connectivity at an unprecedented pace. In just four months since launching the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight, we have already installed this ground-breaking service on 30 aircraft—far exceeding our initial targets. This reflects the commendable efficiency and dedication of our team. Starlink Wi-Fi is a game-changer for our passengers who will soon enjoy uninterrupted connectivity on even more routes.”
Having been named the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2024, Qatar Airways initially aimed to finish installing Starlink across its Boeing 777 fleet within two years. However, thanks to innovative process optimization, the airline plans to complete the entire rollout by the second quarter of 2025. This will allow an even greater number of passengers to experience seamless connectivity while in the air, offering opportunities for everything from streaming content and live sports to online gaming and uninterrupted work at 35,000 feet.
Qatar Airways is streamlining the integration of cutting-edge technology by replacing older systems with new ones at an unprecedented pace—all while ensuring the highest safety standards are met. The airline’s efficient approach to the installation process demonstrates a commitment to redefining industry norms for connectivity and operational efficiency.
With its swift and ambitious Starlink deployment, Qatar Airways continues to set new benchmarks in the aviation sector, ensuring passengers can stay connected no matter where their journey takes them.
