Pattaya, Thailand faces extreme heat as soaring temperatures raise serious health risks, prompting authorities to urge immediate preventive measures for locals and tourists.

As Thailand experiences extreme heat, officials are warning the public about rising health risks and urging precautions against heatstroke. With temperatures forecasted to remain dangerously high during the peak of the hot season, authorities are advising people to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol, which can exacerbate the risk of heat-related illnesses.

According to the Department of Disease Control, 63 deaths from heat-related conditions were recorded in 2024 across 31 provinces. The northeastern region reported the highest number of fatalities, with April accounting for 70% of the total. Most victims were men between the ages of 30 and 95, particularly outdoor workers or individuals with pre-existing conditions like hypertension, diabetes, or heart disease.

Pattaya Faces Increased Heat Risks

Pattaya, a major tourist destination, is also grappling with soaring temperatures. With daily highs reaching the upper 30s to low 40s Celsius, residents, workers, and tourists are increasingly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Popular outdoor attractions such as Pattaya Beach, Walking Street, and Nong Nooch Tropical Garden draw thousands of visitors each day, making heat safety a major concern.

Health officials have especially warned about excessive alcohol consumption in hot environments, a common issue in Pattaya’s nightlife. Alcohol impairs the body’s ability to regulate temperature, accelerates dehydration, and puts additional strain on the cardiovascular system. Many of the heat-related fatalities in Thailand involved individuals who had been drinking before succumbing to heatstroke.

Preventive Measures Advised for Pattaya

To reduce health risks, officials recommend:

  • Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
  • Drinking water regularly to stay hydrated
  • Taking regular pauses in shaded spots or air-conditioned spaces
  • Refraining from intense outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day
  • Refraining from alcohol consumption in extreme heat

Despite the intense heat, Pattaya’s vibrant nightlife and beach activities continue, so local businesses and tourism operators are urged to raise awareness about the dangers of heatstroke and emphasize the importance of staying hydrated.

With temperatures expected to reach up to 44°C in some regions, officials stress that prevention and awareness are key to reducing heat-related fatalities during Thailand’s hottest months.
