Noida International Airport partners with Indraprastha Gas Limited to develop advanced CNG infrastructure, driving sustainability and green aviation forward.

Noida International Airport Advances Sustainability with CNG Infrastructure

Noida International Airport (NIA) has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation by partnering with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure at the airport. This collaboration reflects NIA’s commitment to energy-efficient and eco-friendly solutions for passengers, employees, and airport operations.

Strategic Development of CNG Stations

As part of the agreement, IGL will develop two state-of-the-art CNG stations at strategic locations within the airport premises. One station will be situated in the west precinct, while the other will be located in the airside area. These stations aim to serve travelers, airport personnel, and various stakeholders efficiently, ensuring convenient access to cleaner fuel options.

Comprehensive Gas Distribution Network

In addition to the CNG stations, IGL will oversee the development of a comprehensive City Gas Distribution (CGD) network at the airport. This network will include the establishment of pipeline infrastructure to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to multiple facilities, such as food and beverage outlets, lounges, and kitchens within the terminal and associated airport buildings.

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Noida International Airport, said: “Our collaboration with Indraprastha Gas Limited marks another step in our journey towards building a sustainable and future-ready airport. By integrating CNG infrastructure, we are providing cleaner fuel alternatives to airport users while supporting the broader transition to greener mobility in the region.”

Commitment to Sustainability

This initiative aligns with Noida International Airport’s vision of creating a green, environmentally responsible airport that prioritizes sustainable mobility solutions. The collaboration not only enhances the airport’s energy efficiency but also promotes the use of cleaner fuels, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions.

A Vision for Regional Connectivity

Noida International Airport, currently under development, is poised to become a major aviation hub in the region. In its first phase, the airport will feature a single runway and terminal, capable of handling 12 million passengers annually. Upon the completion of its fourth phase, the airport’s capacity will expand to accommodate 70 million passengers per year, further solidifying its role as a critical infrastructure project for the region.

A Benchmark for Modern Airports

This partnership with IGL underscores NIA’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability, setting a benchmark for modern, eco-friendly airport operations.
