Namo Ghat
Varanasi

Namo Ghat, officially inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during the Dev Deepawali celebrations on Friday, spans over 1.5 kilometers along the Ganga River. Situated downstream between Bhaisashur Ghat (Rajghat) and Adikeshav Ghat, this remarkable project was developed at a cost of ₹76 crore.

Designed to blend faith, tourism, and economic opportunities, the ghat is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to enhance visitors’ experience of the renowned Subah-e-Banaras. As a first for Varanasi, the ghat includes a helipad, making it accessible via water, land, and air. Additional features include a floating CNG station, an open-air theatre, pools, a floating jetty with bathing zones, and modern changing rooms. This world-class destination has been thoughtfully crafted to provide visitors with a serene and divine experience while boosting the city’s cultural and tourism appeal.

Kaushal Raj Sharma, the divisional commissioner and chairman of Varanasi Smart City Limited, highlighted that the redevelopment of Namo Ghat was guided by the Make in India initiative, showcasing the expertise of local artisans. Future plans for the ghat include introducing water adventure sports and heli-tourism, further enhancing its appeal. The name “Namo Ghat” stems from the installation of three grand Namaste statues and is also popularly associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nickname, “NaMo.”

In the first phase of development, the ghat was equipped with essential facilities such as walkways, stairs, ramps leading to the river, a jetty for safe boat boarding, an open-air theatre, restrooms, a food court, a souvenir plaza, parking areas for two- and four-wheelers, gazebos, and distinctive S-shaped benches. The second phase expanded the offerings with a multi-purpose zone featuring helipads constructed above the highest flood levels for emergencies, an additional open-air theatre, a cafeteria, a water sports area, a children’s play zone, a VIP lounge, a green space, and a dedicated Visarjan Kund for idol immersion. This thoughtfully designed project aims to enhance tourism and provide a unique experience for visitors while embracing cultural and local heritage.
