The marking and surveying of structures within the buffer zone of the Musi River are set to begin shortly, with assistance from district and deputy collectors, along with RDOs and tahsildars, according to Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Principal Secretary and Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited, M Dana Kishore.
Families living in the buffer zone who hold pattas will be compensated and relocated in accordance with the RFCTLARR (Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement) Act. Demolition of structures will proceed only after ensuring all legal entitlements are granted, Kishore emphasized, adding that surveys of riverbed structures are already in progress, and their removal will be contingent on the successful resettlement of displaced residents.
Kishore engaged in discussions with members of different civil society organizations, centering on the beautification, development, and resettlement plans for the Musi River. He emphasized the government’s dedication to offering two-bedroom homes to the families impacted by the initiative.
The principal secretary highlighted the crucial role of restoring the Musi River to secure Hyderabad’s future and revealed the government’s vision of developing the riverfront based on the Thames River model in London.
Additionally, a survey assessing the livelihoods of displaced families is underway, with plans to support self-help groups through interest-free loans to help them pursue their chosen professions. The government has already set aside 15,000 two-bedroom houses, with special provisions for families with school-going children to ensure their education is not disrupted.
To ensure a smooth rehabilitation process, a committee with NGO representation will conduct a survey, while a high-level committee of senior officials will oversee the entire effort. Dana Kishore called on NGOs to actively engage in the Musi Riverfront beautification and development, supporting the chief minister’s initiative at the grassroots level.
