The Government of Maharashtra has launched the Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB), a significant initiative aimed at establishing the state as a premier global destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). Unveiled at the IMEX Frankfurt 2025, the MCB will play a central role in positioning Maharashtra as a key player in the international business events sector. By offering integrated support to global event organizers, the Maharashtra Convention Bureau seeks to attract and facilitate major conventions, exhibitions, and business events across the state, further bolstering its growing reputation as a vibrant MICE destination.
Maharashtra Convention Bureau: A Strategic Initiative
Headquartered in Mumbai, the Maharashtra Convention Bureau serves as a dedicated body to coordinate and facilitate MICE activities across the state. MCB will collaborate closely with government ministries, city authorities, venue operators, and industry partners to market Maharashtra’s infrastructure—including venues in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur—to global event organizers and delegates.
The establishment of MCB aligns with the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, which recognizes MICE tourism as a key driver of economic growth. The policy introduces a range of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to attract investment and promote diverse tourism sectors across the state.
Integrated Support for Global Business Events
The Maharashtra Convention Bureau offers comprehensive support to event planners, providing administrative assistance, liaison services, and promotional support. By leveraging the state’s world-class venues, such as the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, MCB aims to streamline the event planning process and ensure the successful execution of international events.
MCB’s efforts are already yielding results, with the state securing prestigious events like the International Baccalaureate Congress 2026 and the ICANN Annual Conference. These high-profile events underscore Maharashtra’s growing prominence on the global MICE stage.
Key MICE Destinations in Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s strategic cities are poised to become interconnected hubs for business tourism, offering a diverse mix of venues, accommodation, and seamless transportation:
- Mumbai: As the financial capital of India, Mumbai boasts the Jio World Convention Centre, one of the largest and most advanced convention centers in the country. Located in the Bandra Kurla Complex, it offers over 32,000 square meters of event space, including modular halls, a grand ballroom, and multiple meeting rooms.
- Pune: Home to the International Convention Centre (ICC) Pune, this city is a major center for education, IT, and manufacturing. The ICC Pune, located on Senapati Bapat Road, features the S.L. Kirloskar Convention Hall with a capacity of up to 1,800 people, making it suitable for large-scale conferences and exhibitions.
- Nashik: Known for its wine industry and religious significance, Nashik offers venues like The Democracy Hotels, Resort & Convention Centre, which provides modern facilities for business events. The city’s infrastructure is being enhanced to support the growing demand for MICE tourism.
- Nagpur: Strategically located in central India, Nagpur is emerging as a key destination for business events. The city’s connectivity and infrastructure developments make it an attractive option for organizers seeking venues outside major metropolitan areas.
Government Support and Future Prospects
The launch of the Maharashtra Convention Bureau is backed by the state’s commitment to enhancing its MICE tourism sector. The involvement of key officials, including Shri Indranil Naik, Minister of State for Tourism, Industries, Public Works, Higher & Technical Education, Tribal Development, Soil & Water Conservation, and Dr. Atul Patne, Principal Secretary (Tourism), underscores the government’s dedication to this initiative.
Looking ahead, Maharashtra is actively bidding for major international events, such as the International Astronautical Congress 2028, to further cement its status as a global MICE destination. These efforts are expected to attract significant international delegations, boosting the state’s economy and global profile.
