A new era of all-inclusive luxury is coming to Costa Rica. Marriott International has entered a landmark agreement with Mullen Real Estate Capital to launch a JW Marriott all-inclusive resort at the coveted Costa Elena resort-residential enclave in Guanacaste. This development is set to be among the brand’s first all-inclusive JW Marriott properties worldwide, reinforcing the brand’s refined take on luxury hospitality through immersive design, curated wellness, and high-touch service.
Located about 49 miles from Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, the forthcoming JW Marriott Costa Elena will feature 415 upscale guest rooms, 11 gourmet dining experiences, and a remarkable 44,000 square feet of aquatic amenities, including 17 resort-style pools. The resort also plans to include 10,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, a 16,000 square foot spa aligned with the JW Marriott wellness philosophy, and a fully equipped, cutting-edge fitness center.
Anchored within the gated Costa Elena coastal community, the resort will enjoy 885 feet of pristine beachfront, appealing to high-end vacationers and global jetsetters seeking tranquil luxury with nature at their doorstep. Future plans may include JW Marriott branded residences nearby, expanding the resort’s offerings for those seeking to invest in lifestyle real estate along Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coastline.
Luxury Tourism in Costa Rica Gains Momentum
Costa Rica’s luxury travel market has witnessed a surge in recent years. In early 2025, Marriott debuted its milestone 50th luxury hotel in the region, the Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, situated in one of the country’s most biodiverse locales. With 10 hotel deals signed in 2024 alone, accounting for 1,086 new rooms, Costa Rica continues to shine as a premium hospitality destination.
This latest signing in Costa Elena adds to Marriott’s growing development pipeline, which now includes 15 properties totaling 1,776 rooms in the country. Currently, the company operates 22 hotels across 15 brands in Costa Rica, with several more expected to open by the end of 2025.
A New Chapter for JW Marriott’s All-Inclusive Vision
This venture marks a strategic milestone in Marriott International’s journey to redefine the all-inclusive category for the luxury segment. By incorporating thoughtfully designed spaces, mindful experiences, and elevated service, the new JW Marriott Costa Elena aims to set a new global benchmark for luxury all-inclusive stays.
