The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives), in collaboration with 1000UT, successfully organized a Destination B2B networking event in Budapest, Hungary, on September 26, 2024. The event brought together six representatives from three prominent Maldivian companies—Robinson Maldives, Kandima Maldives, and Intour Maldives—to strengthen the Maldives’ tourism presence in Central and Eastern Europe.

This event aimed to boost the Maldives’ visibility in the region by connecting with potential agents and buyers. With the support of 1000UT, a leading Hungarian tour operator since 2001, MMPRC facilitated engagements with 40 Hungarian travel agents. Held at UP Hotel Budapest, the event included insightful presentations from destination partners, providing the agents with comprehensive knowledge of the Maldives’ tourism offerings. The event showcased the unique experiences and products of the participating Maldivian resorts, helping Hungarian agents understand the diverse opportunities available to travelers.

Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “We were thrilled to partner with 1000UT to host this B2B event in Hungary. The Maldives has seen steady growth in tourist arrivals from Eastern Europe, and this event underscored our commitment to strengthening ties with the Hungarian travel industry.”

The networking event allowed attendees to connect with Maldives tourism partners and discuss future business collaborations. Presentations by Qatar Airways and Fly Dubai highlighted the connectivity options between Budapest and the Maldives, making it easier for Hungarian travelers to reach the island destination. A mini-workshop also provided a closer look at the offerings of Robinson Maldives, Kandima Maldives, and Intour Maldives.

The Eastern European market continues to show great potential for Maldives tourism. As of August 31, 2024, 12,500 tourists from Hungary had visited the Maldives. MMPRC plans to further reinforce the Maldives’ position as a top travel destination in this region. With upcoming marketing activities, including the CEE Roadshow 2024 and the CEE Discover Maldives Webinar Series, MMPRC aims to continue growing the Maldives’ popularity among Central and Eastern European travelers.
