Madhya Pradesh has solidified its position on the national tourism map with three of its villages, Pranpur, Sabarvani, and Ladpura Khas, being recognized as the best tourism villages in India. The Union Ministry of Tourism made the announcement, awarding these villages for their outstanding contribution to rural and responsible tourism during a ceremony in New Delhi on September 27, coinciding with World Tourism Day.
Pranpur was honored in the craft category for its vibrant handloom weaving traditions, while Sabarvani and Ladpura Khas were recognized for their efforts in responsible tourism. The prestigious recognition was received by Ms. Bidisha Mukherjee, Additional Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, alongside representatives from the rural communities.
Preserving Heritage and Empowering Local Communities
Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, expressed his pride in the achievement, highlighting that these awards reflect Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and empowering local communities through sustainable tourism.
“These villages represent the rich cultural heritage and traditional lifestyle of rural India, and we are dedicated to expanding rural tourism initiatives across the state, bringing global recognition and economic growth to local communities,” Shukla said.
Global Recognition and Economic Growth
Ms. Mukherjee emphasized that the recognition will boost both domestic and international tourism, stimulate job growth, and contribute to preserving traditional crafts, arts, and culture. This award follows last year’s recognition of Madla village in Panna and Khokhar village in Sidhi as top tourism villages, further elevating Madhya Pradesh’s rural tourism status.
