At the 2024 World Travel Market (WTM) in London, Madhya Pradesh firmly established itself as a premier destination within the diverse landscape of Indian tourism. Under the theme “Heart of Incredible India,” the state presented its robust portfolio of tourism resources, emphasizing eco-friendly practices, community enhancement, and cultural conservation.
The pavilion, a beacon of sustainability and safety, was officially opened by His Excellency Mr. Vikram K Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK. This event highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s ambition to expand its footprint in the global travel arena, particularly within the UK market.
The exhibition team was led by Ms. Bidisha Mukherjee, Additional Managing Director at the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, with Mr. Saurabh Pandey, Events & Marketing Manager, and influential figures from the local tourism and hospitality sectors. Their collective efforts were aimed at promoting the state’s distinctive attractions and forging ties with international tourism professionals.
At WTM, Madhya Pradesh captivated visitors with its rich heritage and natural wonders. Featuring three UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Khajuraho’s ancient temples, Bhimbetka’s rock shelters, and Sanchi’s Buddhist monuments—the state’s architectural and historical treasures took center stage.
Moreover, the state is renowned for its captivating landscapes and wildlife sanctuaries, such as Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, and Satpura, which are integral to its eco-tourism appeal. These attractions align with the rising global demand for environmentally conscious travel experiences, particularly resonating with the UK demographic.
“Madhya Pradesh offers a unique tapestry of heritage, wildlife, and sustainable tourism that resonates deeply with travelers seeking authentic experiences,” said Ms. Bidisha Mukherjee, Additional Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. “Our participation at WTM London allows us to forge valuable global connections, inviting the world to discover the rich culture and natural beauty of the Heart of India.”
The pavilion also highlighted diverse travel experiences from the towering Statue of Oneness to the colorful local festivals, handcrafted goods, river cruises, and adventure tourism opportunities. Destinations like Orchha, Mandu, and Maheshwar were showcased, appealing to those in pursuit of tranquility and adventure. The enchanting Marble Rocks at Bhedaghat were also presented as a natural marvel, drawing in nature lovers and thrill-seekers.
The delegation showcased Madhya Pradesh’s dedication to sustainable tourism, emphasizing initiatives that support local communities and conserve natural and cultural assets. This commitment to responsible travel was communicated effectively to the WTM audience.
The 2024 WTM provided an excellent opportunity for Madhya Pradesh to engage with travel agents, tour operators, and media from the UK and Europe. Through productive meetings and discussions, the delegation explored new collaborations, crafted customized travel packages, and worked on enhancing the visibility of the state’s tourism potential.
By participating in WTM London, Madhya Pradesh not only reinforced its status as a leading travel destination but also sought to cultivate lasting connections in the global tourism sector.
