As India’s international travel market continues its rapid expansion, Lufthansa is stepping up its premium game. The German flag carrier is preparing to introduce its ultra-luxurious Allegris cabin experience on select Indian routes, marking a significant upgrade in the airline’s offering for elite travelers.

Part of a sweeping €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion) investment, the Allegris overhaul features cutting-edge first-class suites and exclusive business-class seating designed for maximum comfort and privacy. This next-generation cabin design has already launched on routes from Munich to Shanghai, Chicago, and San Francisco — and now, India is next in line.

The rollout will soon include flights between Germany and India’s major metros, with Mumbai and Bangalore among the first to welcome the revamped interiors. These routes are expected to begin featuring the Allegris product in the coming months, as Lufthansa aligns itself with the rising demand for high-end air travel from India’s affluent flyers.

Currently, a first-class return journey from Munich to Shanghai under the Allegris offering is priced between €7,400 and €9,250, showcasing the airline’s commitment to luxury in the skies. By extending this exclusive experience to Indian travelers, Lufthansa is aiming to strengthen its appeal among high-net-worth individuals and position itself as a preferred carrier for those seeking exceptional service on long-haul international routes.

Next-level luxury with Lufthansa’s private First Class suites

Lufthansa is unveiling a new era of premium air travel by introducing fully enclosed First Class suites for the first time in its history. Designed for maximum privacy, these suites feature floor-to-ceiling walls and doors that can be completely shut, creating a personal sanctuary above the clouds. The configuration includes two single suites and an exclusive “Suite Plus” option — a spacious double suite tailored for passengers traveling together who desire added space and comfort.

First-Class Suites: Outfitted with a spacious 1-meter-wide seat, these private suites include a 32-inch 4K display, personalized climate settings, a dedicated wardrobe, and seamless Bluetooth pairing.

Suite Plus: Crafted for pairs, this ultra-premium space features a 4.6-foot-wide bed built for two, a 43-inch high-definition screen, and gourmet dining options. Solo travelers can secure the entire suite for an extra €1,900 to €2,900, depending on the flight route.

Premium Business Class upgrades

Lufthansa’s Allegris Business Class redefines flexibility with seven distinct seat types, tailored to suit a variety of travel styles and comfort preferences. Premium options include:

First-Row Suites: Positioned at the front for maximum privacy, these offer more room, extra storage, and exclusive perks. Surcharge ranges from €400 to €600.

Throne Seats: Centrally located with extended workspace on both sides, ideal for professionals on the move. Additional fees range between €130 and €230.

Extended Bed Option: A stretched 2.2-meter (7’2″) lie-flat bed provides enhanced sleep comfort, available for €100 to €170.

Window Seats: Designed with alternating arrangements for either window-side or aisle-side placement, priced from €100 to €170.

India focus

Lufthansa is boosting its appeal to Indian travelers by enhancing one-stop access to popular European hotspots like Paris, Zurich, and Vienna. With demand for upscale travel to Europe on the rise, the airline aims to capture the growing segment of wealthy tourists and business professionals from India seeking premium connectivity and comfort.

International travel out of India saw a surge of over 20% in 2023, according to figures from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), with a notable spike in demand for premium-class seats. A large share of this growth stems from Indian travelers favoring Europe for both vacations and work-related trips. The European Travel Commission (ETC) reports a 25% year-on-year increase in Indian visitor arrivals across the continent, with Germany, France, and Switzerland emerging as top choices.
