Laos issues a travel warning for British tourists, highlighting sexual assault risks and methanol poisoning, urging caution when visiting the popular Southeast Asian destination.
A new sexual assault warning has been issued for British tourists traveling to a popular Southeast Asian destination, known for attracting millions of visitors each year.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) has advised travelers to exercise caution in Laos, highlighting the heightened risk of harassment, especially when traveling alone. The FCDO recommends using reliable, known taxi services to mitigate potential safety concerns.
Additional safety advisories have been issued for Laos, with methanol poisoning from unsafe alcohol consumption posing a significant danger. Similar warnings are also in effect for nearby countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
Before planning a trip, travelers are urged to check the FCDO’s latest guidelines for the most current information regarding safety, entry requirements, health risks, and travel insurance. The updated warning follows the tragic deaths of six people in Laos last year due to methanol poisoning.
