Verny Capital, in collaboration with the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, has officially opened a new, state-of-the-art passenger terminal at Korkyt Ata Airport (KZO) in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan. This major infrastructure project is set to enhance the region’s transport links, increase tourism, and bolster the local economy. The new terminal, which is a result of a $35 million investment, will significantly increase the airport’s capacity and provide a platform for further economic development.

Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov, led the official ceremony marking the opening of the new terminal, underscoring its importance as a driver of domestic tourism, trade, and overall regional growth. The terminal’s capacity has been expanded sevenfold, with the ability to accommodate up to 2 million passengers per year. Additionally, the opening of the terminal has already created 40 new jobs, benefiting the local workforce.

The newly constructed terminal spans 7,500 square meters and serves both domestic and international flights. Current destinations include Antalya, Turkey, with plans for additional international routes in the future. Designed by Turkish design company GMW Mimarlik, renowned for its airport development expertise, the terminal incorporates cutting-edge technology, such as automated baggage handling systems, self-service check-in counters, and jet-bridges. Passengers will also enjoy upgraded facilities, including a transit zone, a business lounge, family amenities, duty-free shopping, and dedicated staff areas.

Boosting Tourism and Economic Development in Kyzylorda

With the terminal now in operation, Korkyt Ata Airport is set to become a key player in the region’s growth, both in terms of tourism and economic development. The airport’s enhanced capacity and modernized infrastructure will likely attract more international travelers, making it a pivotal gateway for tourists visiting Kazakhstan’s diverse attractions. In particular, Kyzylorda’s growing appeal as a tourist destination is expected to benefit from the increased accessibility brought by the new terminal.

The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, which played a central role in funding the development, has been recognized for its ongoing commitment to social progress and public infrastructure in Kazakhstan. The Foundation recently received an award from the European Business Association of Kazakhstan (EUROBAK) for its contribution to corporate social responsibility, particularly in developing infrastructure projects like the Korkyt Ata terminal.

A Vision for Long-Term Social Progress

Almaz Sharman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, emphasized the importance of long-term, philanthropic investments for Kazakhstan’s future. “The opening of this terminal represents a major milestone for Kyzylorda. It is a reflection of our Foundation’s commitment to fostering social progress through investments that create tangible benefits for local communities and drive economic development,” said Sharman.

Since its inception in 2014, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has invested over $200 million in initiatives across Kazakhstan, supporting sectors such as healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov commented, “The new terminal at Korkyt Ata Airport is not only an important infrastructure development but also a catalyst for growth. It will open up new flight routes, enhance transit capacity, and increase both passenger and cargo traffic. This is a positive step forward for domestic tourism and the overall economy of Kazakhstan.”

A Strong Commitment to Infrastructure and Development

The expansion of Korkyt Ata Airport is a part of Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to modernize its infrastructure, creating a more interconnected and economically vibrant region. With enhanced air transport capabilities, Kyzylorda is poised to become a hub for international tourism and commerce, attracting visitors and businesses alike.

As Kazakhstan continues to invest in its infrastructure, Korkyt Ata’s new terminal serves as a prime example of how thoughtful investments in public works can drive sustainable development. This project represents a major achievement for both Verny Capital and the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, and its impact is expected to reverberate across the region for years to come.
