Kolkata’s
Women entrepreneurs

Thirty-one women entrepreneurs from Tripura and Mizoram, along with 30 business development experts, government officials, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders, gathered for the final boot camp of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 4.0 in Kolkata on Wednesday. This event, organized under the US Consulate’s women empowerment initiative, highlighted the participants’ entrepreneurial talents and business strategies.

Local representatives shared that the US Consulate General partnered with Contact Base, a non-profit organization, to bring together these women from diverse industries, including tourism, food, and handicrafts. Through this collaborative platform, participants showcased their skills and gained insights into enhancing their small business ventures.

Officials from the state social welfare department highlighted that the AWE 4.0 initiative supported women entrepreneurs in Tripura and Mizoram by enhancing business development skills, creating market linkages, and fostering networking opportunities. Over the past year, the program provided mentoring and coaching to more than 70 women from both states, aiming to promote sustainable growth for their businesses.

The final two-day boot camp in Kolkata included a panel discussion focused on empowering local economies through support for Nano enterprises. The panel covered the role of government agencies, microfinance institutions, and business incubation programs in uplifting women-led Nano enterprises in rural areas, while also sharing strategies for growth and policy recommendations to further this impact.
