Kansas City is about to take its place at the forefront of barbecue culture with the debut of the world’s first-ever barbecue museum. This exciting new attraction promises to highlight the flavors, techniques, and history of a culinary craft that has become iconic in this Midwestern city.

Opening on Saturday, April 12, at Crown Center, the Museum of BBQ will offer visitors an immersive experience into the heart of barbecue. The museum will feature engaging exhibits that explore the many layers of barbecue artistry, providing both educational insights and hands-on experiences for enthusiasts of all ages.

Guests will step through a recreated Southern Pride smoker entrance and embark on a journey through five interactive installations that break down the fundamental components of barbecue: Meat, Rub, Wood and Fire, Smoke, and Sauce. Each exhibit will provide a deeper understanding of how raw ingredients are transformed into the beloved barbecue dishes enjoyed across the country.

Beyond the cooking process, the museum will also explore barbecue’s rich regional diversity. With installations dedicated to the barbecue traditions of the Carolinas, Memphis, Texas, and the Bean Pit, as well as the Kansas City style, visitors will gain a deeper appreciation for how these different methods have shaped America’s culinary landscape.

In addition to its informative displays, the Museum of BBQ will also feature artwork from both local and international artists, reflecting the cultural significance of barbecue and Kansas City’s role as a barbecue capital.

For those looking to take home a taste of Kansas City, the museum’s retail store will offer a range of products, including signature rubs, sauces, and snacks, along with barbecue tools like meat claws and burger presses. Visitors will also find a selection of branded merchandise, such as t-shirts, hats, and sunglasses, to remember their trip.

The Museum of BBQ will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are priced at $10, offering an affordable and engaging way to explore one of Kansas City’s most treasured culinary traditions.
