ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group have taken a significant step towards enhancing connectivity for travelers by introducing a mutual codeshare agreement. For the first time, the route networks of ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group’s airlines—including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Air Dolomiti—will be seamlessly integrated, allowing passengers to book combined itineraries with ease.

With the launch of this collaboration, over 100 new codeshare connections are now available for booking, starting with the summer 2025 schedule. This partnership enables travelers to enjoy a broader selection of flights and greater flexibility. Even when flying with multiple airlines, passengers will benefit from a single ticket featuring a unified flight number for transfer connections. Additionally, baggage will be checked through to the final destination for added convenience.

Loyalty program members of both ITA Airways’ Volare and Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More will also gain from this collaboration, as they can accumulate and redeem miles or points on codeshare flights, further enhancing the travel experience.

Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer, Lufthansa Group, said: “ITA Airways is now an integral part of the offering for our joint passengers. With just one booking, a customer of the Lufthansa Group can use ITA Airways’ synchronized connecting flights with its airline’s flight numbers. Codesharing will further improve and harmonize the travel experience of all passengers at the Lufthansa Group’s hubs. The integration of ITA Airways as part of the Lufthansa Group is progressing rapidly and now enables far-reaching advantages in the offering for our joint customers through code sharing.”

Starting 30 March 2025, with the launch of the summer flight schedule, selected ITA Airways flights will operate under the flight numbers of Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines. This integration covers year-round domestic connections within Italy from Rome-Fiumicino, as well as international routes from Rome to Malta, Athens, Sofia, and Tirana.

For the first time, Lufthansa Group customers can book ITA Airways flights to destinations such as Alghero (Sardinia), Pantelleria (Sicily), and Reggio di Calabria, further expanding their travel options. Additionally, codeshare agreements will extend to ITA Airways flights connecting Italy with Lufthansa Group hubs.

For instance, under the new codeshare system, a Lufthansa passenger can book a Frankfurt to Rome flight under flight number LH236 and seamlessly continue their journey to Brindisi with ITA Airways under Lufthansa flight number LH5078. This offers more flexibility and connectivity beyond Lufthansa’s existing routes to Brindisi.

Conversely, ITA Airways passengers will gain greater access to Lufthansa Group’s network, enabling them to plan multi-airline journeys across Europe. Initially, this codeshare agreement will focus on European routes, allowing ITA Airways passengers to conveniently reach destinations across Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe with a single booking. Once the codeshare program is fully implemented, ITA Airways customers will be able to choose from over 250 destinations worldwide through the Lufthansa Group network.
