InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, a distinguished brand within the IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury collection, recently inaugurated InterContinental Indianapolis. This upscale venue is ideally situated in downtown Indianapolis at 17 West Market Street, just a short walk from the renowned Monument Circle and the Indiana State Capitol. Marking the city’s first premier hotel launch in over twenty years, InterContinental Indianapolis boasts 170 luxuriously furnished rooms and suites. It introduces two novel dining venues led by the acclaimed Chef Craig Baker, including the city’s inaugural rooftop bar and the established high-end Hyde Park steakhouse. The hotel offers 5,000 square feet of versatile meeting and event space, and features the only Penthouse Suite in the city, occupying a private floor with stunning views of Monument Circle. Located in the historic Illinois Building, which was once listed among Indiana’s top ten most endangered landmarks, the building has been revitalized by the local Keystone Group. After completing significant renovations in 2024, the Keystone Group opened the doors to this elegantly restored property on February 20th. The InterContinental Indianapolis is setting new standards for luxury in the urban core, offering a sophisticated haven for both visitors and local patrons.
Ersal Ozdemir, Owner and Developer, Keystone Group, said: “The opening of InterContinental Indianapolis signifies an elevation of the hospitality and tourism industries to include true luxury in one of America’s most vibrant cities. Keystone Group, with the distinguished InterContinental brand, has transformed the historic Illinois Building into the only luxury accommodation of its kind. With classic contemporary design, luxury finishes, and state-of-the-art amenities all absent from the market, InterContinental Indianapolis is a beacon of elegance, style, and engineering excellence.”
Leanne Harwood, SVP and Managing Director of Luxury & Lifestyle Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts, expanded: “As we open the doors to InterContinental Indianapolis with Keystone Group, we are proud to bring elevated experiences and create a sense of discovery for the modern luxury traveler while setting a new standard for hospitality in the region. This stunning hotel embodies the vibrant culture and rich heritage of Indianapolis, so whether you’re a visitor exploring the destination for the first time or a local seeking to savor a perfectly crafted cocktail on the rooftop, there is something for all to enjoy.”
Guests stepping into the hotel are greeted by grand brass doors, beautifully detailed with elaborate metalwork against panels of smooth alabaster. These stunning features, originally crafted by architects Robush and Hunter in 1925, have been lovingly maintained and updated with a modern aesthetic. A significant $120 million renovation introduced a new top floor, raising the structure to 11 stories while preserving the grandeur of the historic entrance and architectural finesse from yesteryears, complemented by a sleek new canopy that ushers visitors into a refined ambiance. The facade of the building, primarily that of the historic Illinois Building, showcases granite and limestone exteriors adorned with Moderne-style bas-relief panels, crowned with a terra cotta cornice in a shimmering gold finish. Inside, the design continues to impress with custom-made Murano chandeliers and a stunning triple-story hand-blown glass chandelier, anchoring the second-floor lobby. The hotel’s art collection celebrates local Indiana artists, and luxurious Italian marble adorns the communal areas.
The hotel’s 170 guest rooms and suites are a testament to refined elegance, with decor that fuses luxury with comfort. Soft, plush furnishings meet high-quality linens and top-tier Black Label BeautyRest mattresses for ultimate comfort. The rooms boast walk-in showers, and some suites feature deep soaking tubs for a relaxing end to the day. The bathrooms are equipped with dual vanities, perfect for a glamorous evening prep, and a fully stocked wet bar in each room ensures a delightful night in. Other upscale amenities include Nespresso Machines, carefully selected mini bars, and exclusive Bal D’Afrique toiletries by BYREDO. Notably, the InterContinental Indianapolis houses the city’s sole Penthouse Suite, offering panoramic cityscape views from towering windows.
The culinary experience at the hotel is spearheaded by the renowned Indiana Chef Craig Baker, who manages the dining establishments including the pioneering Astrea Rooftop Bar and Serliana restaurant. Astrea offers a chic year-round cocktail haven with a scenic view over Monument Circle and the Indiana State Capitol, with signature drinks like the Monument G&T and Cardinal Crown. Serliana presents a stylish setting on the hotel’s second floor for all-day dining, with menus inspired by local flavors and architectural elegance, featuring delights such as a Housemade Biscuit Sandwich and a luxurious Lobster Roll, alongside a revamped Indiana Pork Tenderloin Sandwich.
InterContinental Indianapolis is poised to become a premier venue for the city’s most noteworthy events, embodying the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ ethos of “Incredible Occasions.” The hotel boasts over 5,000 square feet of versatile event space, including a lavish 2,500-square-foot ballroom, an executive boardroom perfect for high-profile meetings, and varied wedding settings tailored to individual tastes and themes. Expert event coordinators ensure every function is flawlessly executed from start to finish.
Reflecting the InterContinental’s commitment to cultural integration, the hotel’s dedicated concierge team offers bespoke services, from securing tickets to major events to personal dining and cultural recommendations. Located at a cultural crossroads, the InterContinental Indianapolis neighbors top city attractions like Lucas Oil Stadium, White River State Park, and the Indianapolis Zoo, placing guests at the heart of the city’s vibrant cultural and social scenes.
