Pravasi Bharatiya

India has introduced the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, an exclusive, cutting-edge tourist train dedicated to serving the Indian Diaspora. This initiative is crafted to help reconnect Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), aged between 45 and 65, with their ancestral roots.

With space for up to 156 passengers, the Pravasi Bharatiya Express will depart from Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi on January 9, 2025. The train will undertake a comprehensive three-week journey across India, visiting key cultural and religious sites. Key stops on this journey include Ayodhya, Patna, Gaya, Varanasi, Mahabalipuram, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kochi, Goa, Ekta Nagar (Kevadia), Ajmer, Pushkar, and Agra.

This special tour is part of the Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana, a scheme by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, with support from the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

The Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana, led by India’s Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation, will fully sponsor the expenses for this unique tour. To further support eligible Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), the Government of India will subsidize 90 percent of their return airfare from their home countries, with participants responsible for only 10 percent of the flight cost.

This special journey, set to depart on January 9, 2025, pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s historic return to India from South Africa on this date in 1915, marking a century-old legacy of connection and heritage.
