Indian Railways is preparing to introduce a new Vande Bharat Sleeper variant in January 2025, following the widespread success of the Vande Bharat Express, which revolutionized train travel in India. This sleeper version is designed for longer routes and overnight journeys. The train is being manufactured by BEML, with a prototype revealed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in September 2024.
Jammu and Kashmir is also set to benefit from this new development, as a proposal is in the works to launch the Vande Bharat Sleeper between New Delhi and Srinagar. This service will be maintained and operated by the Northern Railway zone.
New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper: Key Information
The train will cover over 800 kilometers in under 13 hours.
It will operate on the USBRL project, which is progressing rapidly.
Scheduled to depart New Delhi at 7:00 PM, it will arrive in Srinagar by 8:00 AM.
Major stops will include Ambala Cantt Junction, Ludhiana Junction, Kathua, Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Sangaldan, and Banihal.
Passengers will have three accommodation options: AC 3 Tier (3A), AC 2 Tier (2A), and AC First Class (1A).
Ticket prices are expected to range from ₹2,000 for 3A, ₹2,500 for 2A, and ₹3,000 for 1A.
