As IBTM World 2024 approaches, the leading international trade show in Barcelona is gearing up for an impressive gathering of the global business events community. With the event just around the corner, the organizers have announced that over 72,000 meetings between exhibitors and buyers are already arranged.
This year’s event sees a 20 percent surge in scheduled meetings from last year, raising the average number of meetings per exhibitor. A total of 72,147 meetings have been set, excluding spontaneous encounters during the show and additional bookings expected in the days leading up to the event.
The number of visitors is projected to increase by 10 percent, with a notable rise in buyer attendance—21 percent more than the previous year, including 63 percent who are first-time attendees.
Building Bridges in Barcelona
Set against the backdrop of Fira de Barcelona from November 19 to 21, this year’s IBTM World emphasizes the theme ‘People Power Potential’. The event highlights the critical role of collaboration and collective effort in harnessing potential alongside cutting-edge technology in the events industry.
This edition will see nearly 100 new exhibitors, including first-time participants from Beijing, Mauritius, and Inter MICE Asia—the first exhibitor from Uzbekistan. Newcomers also include the Emirate of Ajman and Birmingham & West Midlands from the UK.
Creating Opportunities for Collaboration
IBTM World is fostering a collaborative environment with several new initiatives this year. These include the Hotel Pavilion, designed for independent and small group hotels, and the Forum for Advocacy, which gathers leaders across various sectors on November 18. This forum, developed in partnership with The Business of Events, aims to enhance discussions on advocacy within the industry.
The Exceptional Experiences program is another highlight, tailored to aid in-house event professionals and marketers in crafting impactful experiences that propel business growth. Following an exclusive workshop for senior executives on the first day, the second day will feature presentations from representatives of major companies like Amazon, TikTok, and Canva on the Main Stage.
Empowering Through Knowledge
The Main Stage will also host a lineup of five distinguished keynote speakers this year. Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, a five-time British Paralympic athlete, will kick off the event, followed by human connection expert Simone Heng. The closing day will feature insights from Julius Solaris of Boldpush, Goc O’Callaghan from Buro Happold, and Louise O’Connor of Seen Presents Ltd. These keynotes align with this year’s comprehensive conference themes, including Insight, Innovation, and Social Responsibility among others.
Celebrating Two Decades in Style
Marking its 20th anniversary in Barcelona, IBTM World will celebrate with a variety of local flavors and cultural exhibits, including tapas food trucks and a showcase of artists. The festivities will culminate in the renowned Welcome Party on the show floor, wrapping up the first day of the event.
Claudia Hall, IBTM World Exhibition Director, said: “What a show we have in store for our fantastic attendees this year. From our pioneering speakers and enterprising exhibitors to our inspiring conference programme and ingenuities new features, this year’s show is overflowing with insight, passion and potential.
“Every year we think carefully about how we can provide utmost value, and I know the enhancements we’ve made to this year’s show will enable even greater connections, endless opportunities for working together and, ultimately, better business results for all. I can’t wait to see you next week and welcome you to our best edition yet.”
