Hungary’s tourism sector is set for major developments in 2025, with the launch of a tourism bank, new hotel support programs, and direct U.S. flights to Budapest.
Speaking at the 32nd Tourism Season Opening Gala, Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy emphasized that the industry has become a key driver of Hungary’s economy, contributing significantly to GDP growth.
According to the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ, mtu.gov.hu), the country saw 18 million tourists in 2024, an 11% increase from the previous year. Guest nights exceeded 44 million, generating 1,050 billion forints (€2.7 billion) in accommodation revenue, a 16% rise. Additionally, catering sector revenue surged 11.2% to 2,005 billion forints (€5.2 billion).

The government aims to reach 20 million annual visitors by 2030, aligning with Hungary’s long-term tourism strategy.

This program will be managed through the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ), focusing on attracting more leisure and business travelers.
