Hitachi Rail has unveiled a revolutionary digital asset management suite powered by NVIDIA AI technology, set to redefine how transport operators manage and maintain rail systems.

The HMAX (Hyper Mobility Asset Expert) suite is a comprehensive digital asset management platform designed to deliver AI-enhanced solutions for optimizing trains, signaling, and infrastructure. This platform integrates cutting-edge technology to help operators streamline operations and improve asset management.

Hitachi’s existing digital tools utilize remote sensors to monitor asset health and boost performance, but the HMAX platform takes this a step further by combining real-time data collection with advanced AI. This fusion allows operators to gain faster, more detailed insights, enabling them to predict issues, optimize efficiency, and transform railway services with greater precision.

Leveraging NVIDIA’s industrial AI platform and Hitachi Digital’s AI Centre of Excellence, the HMAX suite offers transport operators next-level innovation. With its “edge to cloud” architecture, Hitachi Rail customers can access these advanced solutions from anywhere—whether remotely or from operational centers—through a single portal. This initiative aligns with Hitachi’s vision of integrating AI into Operational Technology, empowering engineers, operators, and frontline staff with AI-driven insights.

The collaboration with NVIDIA utilizes the NVIDIA IGX platform and Holoscan sensor processing technology, allowing large data sets to be processed in real time at the edge, directly on trains or infrastructure. Only essential information is then sent to control centers, drastically reducing the time it takes to deliver actionable insights, from days down to near-instantaneous processing. This innovation marks a significant leap forward in the speed and accuracy of railway maintenance and operations.

Speaking at the company’s showcase at InnoTrans, Berlin, Hitachi Rail CEO, Giuseppe Marino, said:

“At Hitachi Rail, we believe AI has immediate and very impactful applications that will make the railways run more efficiently. Our AI-enabled digital asset management is a solution for optimizing customers’ rail services and enhancing railway performance. We are delighted by our collaboration with NVIDIA, which will combine the power of AI with advanced Hitachi Rail technologies to enhance railway outcomes for operators.”

Yogesh Agrawal, Vice President of Data Center Business at NVIDIA, said:

“The railway, a system strengthened by the first industrial revolution, is at the forefront of the latest paradigm shift toward a digital transformation with AI. Hitachi Rail’s HMAX solution, powered by NVIDIA IGX and Holoscan, will offer the real-time computing capabilities needed to help boost the manageability, safety and availability of rail systems to meet the needs of operators and today’s travelers.”
