This Sunday, wine enthusiasts worldwide will raise a glass to Global Wine Tourism Day, an annual celebration spotlighting the diverse and storied world of Greek wines.
Held on the second Sunday of November since 2009, this event has grown from a European tradition to an international phenomenon since 2019.
Greek wineries across the country will welcome visitors with guided tours, tastings of fresh and aged wines, and samplings of regional delicacies.
The initiative showcases Greece’s deep-rooted winemaking heritage, with more than 1,750 wineries, although currently only 100 are designated as visitor-ready.
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni emphasized the Greek government’s commitment to expanding wine tourism by developing a national network of visitor-friendly wineries.
This effort seeks to boost off-season tourism by blending wine production with hospitality and culinary experiences.
“We want travelers to connect deeply with our regions through unique wine experiences,” Kefalogianni remarked, highlighting the importance of global marketing to promote Greece’s wine destinations.
The initiative marks a strategic step toward enhancing Greece’s tourism appeal, linking culture, history, and local flavors for a truly immersive experience.
