The Greek Consulate General in Istanbul expects to issue over 200,000 visas to Turkish travelers in 2025, marking another record year for Türkiye-Greece tourism.

In an interview with daily Milliyet on February 2, 2025, Greek Consul General Koutras emphasized the continuous rise in cross-border travel and ongoing efforts to expand tourism beyond the traditional summer months.

According to Greece’s Ministry of Tourism (mintour.gov.gr), recent tourism policies aim to diversify travel offerings, promoting multi-seasonal tourism through extended visa facilitation for Turkish visitors. This aligns with Greece’s broader National Tourism Strategy, which emphasizes sustainable growth and enhancing visitor experiences.

Expanding Tourism Beyond Summer

Koutras highlighted that Greece is actively promoting winter tourism, encouraging Turkish travelers to explore ski resorts and mountain destinations in addition to the well-known summer hotspots. According to Visit Greece (visitgreece.gr), the country boasts popular winter destinations such as:

  • Mount Parnassos – Ideal for skiing, located near Delphi.
  • Zagorohoria – A picturesque mountain village in Epirus.
  • Metsovo – A scenic town offering authentic Greek culture and winter activities.

To support this initiative, the Greek Consulate General plans to issue multi-entry visas, allowing Turkish travelers greater flexibility when planning their trips.

Best Times for Turkish Travelers to Visit Greece

Koutras recommended that Turkish tourists visit Crete and Rhodes in September or October, highlighting advantages such as:

  • Fewer crowds compared to peak summer months.
  • Better quality food at lower prices.
  • Ideal weather conditions for outdoor exploration.

Data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (statistics.gr) shows that autumn travel has grown in popularity among child-free travelers, who prefer a more relaxed and cost-effective experience.

Greek Tourists Also Flock to Türkiye

The tourism exchange between Türkiye and Greece is not one-sided. Koutras noted a significant increase in Greek tourists visiting Türkiye, particularly destinations such as:

  • Istanbul – A cultural and shopping hub.
  • İzmir – A vibrant coastal city with Greek heritage.
  • Bodrum – A preferred luxury travel destination.
  • Cappadocia – A world-famous hotspot known for its hot air balloon rides and unique landscapes.

Expressing his deep appreciation for Türkiye, Koutras shared his personal experiences, stating:

“I have visited Cappadocia around 15 times. I have done a hot air balloon tour, and I love it. The people of Cappadocia have a unique charm that keeps drawing me back.”

Record-Breaking Tourism Expected in 2025

With increasing demand for cross-border travel, Greece and Türkiye are set for a record year in tourism.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mfa.gr) continues to facilitate easier visa access for Turkish citizens, while both countries collaborate to strengthen bilateral tourism ties.

As the next peak travel season approaches, Turkish travellers looking to visit Greece in 2025 should monitor official Greek consulate updates and secure their multi-entry visas early to take advantage of the extended tourism offerings.
