Germany’s Carnival Corporation enhances sustainability by applying the revolutionary Aquaterras biocide-free coating on AIDAdiva, boosting eco-friendly practices across its fleet.

Carnival Corporation has applied the Aquaterras biocide-free coating to its 16th vessel, the AIDAdiva, following its recent drydock refurbishment.

The coating, supplied by Nippon Paint Marine, is part of Carnival’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental protection across its fleet.

First applied in 2022, the AIDAdiva became the third Carnival ship to receive the Aquaterras treatment. After three years in service, the ship’s hull showed no biofouling upon its arrival in Marseille in 2025, despite not undergoing any underwater cleaning during that period, according to the company.

Launched in 2017, Aquaterras is an innovative fouling protection technology that uses hydrophilic and hydrophobic microdomain structures to improve fouling resistance. Its biocide-free formula ensures that no harmful metals or biocides are released into the marine environment.
