2 million French

Greece expects to welcome over 2 million French tourists in 2024, setting a historic milestone and showcasing its growing appeal as a top travel destination.

For the first time ever, the number of French tourists visiting Greece is set to surpass 2 million in 2024, according to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni. This milestone reflects the growing importance of the French market to Greece’s thriving tourism industry.

Speaking with French media, Kefalogianni highlighted official data from the Bank of Greece, emphasizing the record-breaking year for international arrivals and tourism revenues. She underlined the strong connection between Greece and France, positioning it as a pivotal market for the country’s tourism growth.

Currently in Paris to promote Greece as a premier travel destination, Kefalogianni is focusing on bolstering tourism from France. During her visit, she engaged with prominent French media outlets such as Le Figaro, LaQuotidienne.fr, and L’Echo Touristique. She detailed Greece’s long-term tourism goals, including initiatives to attract more French travelers.

The minister outlined a strategic vision for Greek tourism that prioritizes the promotion of lesser-known destinations and the diversification of offerings to extend the tourist season. This approach aims to showcase Greece’s rich and varied travel experiences, driving sustainable growth and enhancing the country’s appeal to global audiences.

Kefalogianni also addressed significant policy developments, including updated regulations for short-term rentals and the environmental classification of hotels. She highlighted legislative measures for marinas, designed to strengthen Greece’s maritime tourism infrastructure and attract more nautical travelers.

Introducing new target markets such as India, China, and Saudi Arabia, Kefalogianni discussed Greece’s forward-thinking strategies to expand its global footprint. She revealed plans for a cruise passenger levy and a berth allocation system, which aim to manage overcrowding at hotspots like Santorini and Mykonos, ensuring a more balanced tourism flow.

The minister reassured French audiences of Greece’s commitment to enhancing the visitor experience by improving safety, upgrading infrastructure, and creating an unparalleled travel offering. She emphasized the government’s dedication to delivering an “authentic and unforgettable” experience for every visitor.

While in Paris, Kefalogianni is set to speak at the Delphi Paris Forum II at the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée and attend a UNESCO event titled “Culture and Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” She will also meet with representatives of French tourism organizations and visit the Greek National Tourism Organization’s French branch to discuss promotional strategies tailored to the French market.
