Tourists visiting Panauti can now enjoy a new initiative aimed at enhancing their experience with the introduction of a free ‘Sampada-Passport’ or Heritage Permit. The Panauti Tourism Development Centre launched the ‘Panauti Heritage Passport’ on the occasion of World Tourism Day to help visitors explore the area’s rich cultural and historical landmarks.

According to Purushottam Karmacharya, Chairman of the Panauti Tourism Development Centre, the passport serves as a comprehensive guide to Panauti’s important religious and historical sites, festivals, and heritage trails. The passport includes a map and a brief description of the town’s cultural significance, making it an essential tool for tourists.

In addition to the passport, several programs have been initiated to create self-employment opportunities for locals. These include painting heritage areas, operating free transportation services for tourists, and offering training to locals in crafting traditional straw mats known as Sukul.

To further assist tourists, the passport is equipped with QR codes for easy access to information about key sites. Karmacharya noted that the passport aims to highlight Panauti’s heritage while providing a user-friendly experience for visitors.

Panauti was proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site 25 years ago, and this new initiative seeks to continue preserving and promoting its cultural and historical importance.
