This November marks the exciting return of Sydney Cellar Door, a two-day celebration of New South Wales’ finest wines, organized by the NSW Wine Industry Association. After nearly a decade away, this beloved event is back, bigger and better than ever, as the centerpiece of the first-ever NSW Wine Month. The month-long festival will be dedicated to showcasing the best winemakers from across the state through a variety of events, tastings, masterclasses, and special promotions at venues throughout Sydney.
The event, set to take place from November 9-10, 2024, at Tallawoladah Lawn, will bring together over 40 wineries from 16 wine regions across NSW. In partnership with major sponsor The Rocks, Sydney Cellar Door will give wine lovers a chance to sample an incredible selection of wines right in the heart of the city. From established names to up-and-coming producers, this event offers something for everyone—from the casual drinker to the dedicated wine enthusiast.
This year’s event is a significant moment, marking the first Sydney Cellar Door in nearly ten years. With 40 producers on display, attendees will have the unique opportunity to explore the diversity of NSW’s wine regions, from the well-known to the undiscovered. Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your favorite wineries or discover something completely new, this weekend promises a full wine immersion experience.
Among the standout participants are Philip Shaw and Ross Hill from the cool-climate vineyards of Orange, while family-run wineries like Margan and Tyrrell’s will be representing the iconic Hunter Valley. Mudgee’s Lowe Family Wines and Robert Stein will also be featured, highlighting some of the region’s finest varietals.
Although NSW wines make up only 12% of the wine lists across Greater Sydney, this event is poised to increase awareness and appreciation for the exceptional quality of wines produced within the state.
Best of all, the event is free to attend, making it accessible to everyone. Visitors will have the option to purchase branded tasting glasses and tokens to sample a wide range of wines from participating producers. To complement the wine tastings, there will also be food trucks and live entertainment, adding to the festive atmosphere and making it the perfect weekend outing for all.
Whether you’re a longtime wine lover or just looking to explore, Sydney Cellar Door offers an unmissable chance to experience the best of New South Wales wine in one vibrant, exciting location. Grab your glass and get ready for a wine journey like no other!
“The relaunch of Sydney Cellar Door in 2024 marks the revival of an important landmark event in Sydney’s wine culture, and one that we look forward to growing” said Mark Bourne, President, NSW Wine. “After 235 years since the first grapes were planted in Australia at Circular Quay, winemakers from across NSW are returning to showcase the diversity and quality of wines — so join us across two days to celebrate the rich wine history of NSW.”
“We are thrilled to bring the NSW Wine Sydney Cellar Door to life in The Rocks, a place where the very first vines arrived in Australia. Building on our relationship with the NSW Wine Industry Association and the successful bi-monthly pop-up cellar door at The Rocks Markets, this event will further showcase the best wines our region has to offer. November will be the time to enjoy more NSW wine experiences throughout The Rocks” said Anita Mitchell, Chief Executive, Placemaking NSW.
