The European Commission today unveiled the finalists for the prestigious 2025 European Capital and Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism Awards. These accolades recognize cities that showcase excellence in sustainable and smart tourism, fostering innovation, and promoting best practices across Europe.

European Capital of Smart Tourism 2025: Pioneering the Future of Tourism

Out of 21 applicants from 10 different countries, seven cities have been shortlisted as finalists for the 2025 European Capital of Smart Tourism. In alphabetical order, the cities are:

European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism 2025: Leading the Way in Sustainability

From 16 applicant destinations, seven cities have been selected as finalists in the 2025 European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism category. The finalists, listed alphabetically, are:

Aveiro, Portugal

Benidorm, Spain

Jurmala, Latvia

Liepāja, Latvia

Nea Propontida, Greece

Panevėžys, Lithuania

Sliven, Bulgaria

The Selection Process

Due to the exceptional quality of the submissions, the shortlist for both awards was expanded from four to seven finalists. All selected cities will present their proposals to a distinguished European jury on November 26 and 27, 2024, after which the winners of the 2025 European Capital and Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism will be announced.

A hashtag sculpture installed in the city
