Ethiopian Airlines celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 on March 8 with an all-female-operated flight from Addis Ababa to Athens, reinforcing its commitment to gender equality in aviation.
Athens, a key destination in the airline’s network, welcomed the special flight with a collaborative event organized by Ethiopian Airlines and Athens International Airport. The event honored the all-female crew, including pilots, flight attendants, and engineers, underscoring the airline’s dedication to empowering women in the aviation industry.
The flight showcased Ethiopian Airlines’ ongoing efforts to promote female excellence across various roles, emphasizing that no position should be defined by gender. Currently, women represent approximately 40 percent of the airline’s workforce, actively contributing to its operational, technical, and managerial success.
Athens International Airport also participated in the celebration, recognizing the significance of women’s contributions to aviation. The event sent a strong message of inspiration and encouragement for increased female participation in the sector.
This initiative aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ broader commitment to elevating women’s presence in aviation, with previous all-female-operated flights departing to destinations such as Bahir Dar, Delhi, Dubai, Windhoek, and São Paulo.
Expanding Connectivity to Athens
Ethiopian Airlines has a long history with Athens, having first launched flights in 1954. After a period of suspension, the airline resumed services in 2019. In response to rising demand, Ethiopian Airlines has recently increased its direct flights to Athens to six per week, replacing its previous connecting route via Warsaw.
The airline aims to further expand its services by introducing daily flights to Athens, ensuring greater accessibility and strengthening its global network.
