The DOT launches a Tourist Rest Area and the first Klook Kiosk in San Jose, Camarines Sur, enhancing visitor convenience and boosting local tourism.
In a significant move to enhance the tourism experience in the Philippines, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has inaugurated a new Tourist Rest Area (TRA) and launched the country’s first Klook Kiosk at Talisay Port, Brgy. Dolo, San Jose, Camarines Sur. The new facility aims to provide travelers with essential amenities and seamless access to local tours and travel services.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco led the unveiling ceremony, joined by key officials, including Camarines Sur 4th District Representative Arnulf Bryan Fuentebella, San Jose Mayor Jerold Peña, Klook Philippines General Manager Michelle Ho, and TIEZA Assistant Chief Operating Officer Gregory Oller. DOT officials, including Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, Director Glenn Albert Ocampo, and Region V Director Herbie Aguas, were also present.
A Boost to Tourism Infrastructure and Local Economy
The newly opened Tourist Rest Area is designed to serve both domestic and international visitors by offering a range of modern amenities, including:
- Information lounge to assist travelers with guidance on local attractions
- Charging stations for mobile devices
- Shower rooms and clean restrooms for convenience
- First aid station for emergencies
- Rainwater harvesting system to support sustainability
- Pasalubong center showcasing locally made products from San Jose and nearby towns
Secretary Frasco emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening tourism infrastructure as a means of economic empowerment for local communities. “This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision to elevate the country’s tourism standards while creating livelihood opportunities in tourism-dependent areas,” she stated.
The Tourist Rest Area program continues to expand, with over 90 TRAs planned for construction nationwide this year, reinforcing the DOT’s mission to enhance visitor experiences while promoting local economies.
Klook Kiosk: Seamless Travel Booking for Tourists
Alongside the TRA, the Klook Kiosk—the first of its kind in the Philippines—was introduced to make travel planning more convenient. Through the kiosk, visitors can instantly book tours, transportation, and experiences with exclusive discounts.
Secretary Frasco highlighted the strategic partnership between DOT and Klook in improving accessibility for travelers. “We are grateful for this collaboration with Klook, which brings more opportunities for our local communities and helps drive tourism growth in San Jose and Camarines Sur.”
Klook Philippines General Manager Michelle Ho echoed this sentiment, stating that the kiosk is not just a booking hub but a gateway for travelers to explore the region’s rich offerings. “With this initiative, we are making travel more seamless while ensuring that our tourists get the best possible experience,” she added.
Strengthening Local Tourism and Cultural Heritage
The DOT and Klook cemented their official partnership in January, enabling the promotion of Philippine Experience Program (PEP) tours on the Klook platform. This initiative includes curated experiences across the Bicol Region, allowing tourists to discover the area’s unique landscapes, heritage, and adventures.
Camarines Sur is home to renowned attractions such as the Caramoan Islands, Mount Isarog, and the Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC), making it a prime travel destination. Meanwhile, San Jose boasts a variety of natural and cultural treasures, including Talisay Beach, Adiangao Cave, and the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Joseph. The town is also known for its Harana Festival, a celebration of its rich cultural and religious traditions.
To further support tourism professionals, Secretary Frasco distributed tour guiding kits to local guides, containing sunscreen, a tumbler, a hat, shades, a notebook, a pen, and a portable lapel microphone. Additionally, she personally provided P50,000 worth of personal accident insurance for the tour guides, reinforcing the government’s dedication to empowering tourism workers.
