Philip Deiwert, Executive Director of Decatur County Tourism, has announced his resignation after six years of service to the county.
Deiwert will transition to a new role with Hendricks County Tourism, effective February 7, 2025, according to an official statement from the Decatur County Visitors and Recreation Commission.
Under Deiwert’s leadership, Decatur County Tourism advanced initiatives to promote local attractions, drive visitor engagement, and enhance economic growth through tourism. His contributions included developing strategic marketing campaigns and fostering partnerships that boosted the county’s profile as a regional destination.
Ryan Maddux, President of the Decatur County Tourism Board, acknowledged Deiwert’s impact, stating, “Philip’s efforts have significantly enhanced our county’s tourism landscape. We wish him the best in his new role and are committed to finding a successor who will continue this momentum.”
Search for a New Tourism Director
The Decatur County Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Decatur County Human Resources Department, is preparing to launch the search for Deiwert’s successor. Board President Maddux plans to consult with Decatur County HR Director Patty Hensley to outline the hiring process, including posting the vacancy and reviewing applications.
The county’s official website will provide updates on the job posting and application deadlines. Interested candidates are encouraged to monitor the Decatur County Government page for announcements regarding the position.
Continued Focus on Tourism Growth
The Decatur County Visitors and Recreation Commission emphasized its commitment to maintaining the growth trajectory established under Deiwert’s tenure. Initiatives will focus on showcasing the county’s attractions, such as historical landmarks, outdoor recreational opportunities, and community events, in alignment with Indiana’s tourism strategy.
The Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) has expressed support for Decatur County during this transition. IOTD Director Elaine Bedel remarked, “Decatur County’s tourism sector has thrived in recent years. We are confident that the new leadership will build upon the strong foundation established under Philip Deiwert.”
Future Plans
As the county begins the process of selecting a new tourism director, the board remains focused on delivering ongoing projects and ensuring a smooth transition. Key goals include enhancing local partnerships, increasing marketing efforts, and maintaining collaboration with state-level tourism initiatives.
