Cunard’s much-anticipated new ship, Queen Anne, made a grand entrance into North America today, arriving in New York City on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England. This marks Cunard’s first new ship in 14 years, a 14-deck marvel featuring 15 dining venues and accommodations for up to 3,000 guests.
For the first time in the company’s 185-year history, Cunard is led by two women: Captain Inger Klein Thorhauge, a trailblazer in the maritime industry, commands the Queen Anne, while President Katie McAlister guides Cunard into an exciting new era of luxury cruising.
The ship’s design, masterminded by creative director Adam Tihany, celebrates Cunard’s rich art-deco heritage while incorporating modern elegance. A centerpiece of this vision is the ship’s remarkable collection of 4,300 art pieces, created by both emerging and renowned artists worldwide, each reflecting Cunard’s storied legacy. Onboard entertainment has also been reimagined, with standout venues like the “Bright Lights Society,” an intimate cabaret-style experience.
Queen Anne elevates guest wellness with new offerings, including the Pavilion Wellness Café, which serves plant-based cuisine alongside sustainably sourced meat, fish, and dairy. Additionally, the Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea program offers three-day packages focused on relaxation, energy restoration, and recovery, promising a rejuvenating journey.
Her arrival in New York kicks off a historic 107-day inaugural World Voyage, reinforcing Cunard’s legacy as the pioneer of world cruises since 1922. This journey embodies Cunard’s commitment to fostering international connections and cultural understanding—values that resonate deeply in today’s interconnected world.
Cunard and New York share a rich history, with milestones that underscore their enduring partnership:
- Cunard has sailed to New York since 1847, longer than any other cruise line.
- The line carried one in five immigrants to America, helping millions start new lives in New York and beyond.
- Iconic ships like Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth defined the golden age of ocean travel, hosting cultural and political luminaries.
- In 2015, the Empire State Building illuminated in red to celebrate Cunard’s 175th anniversary, highlighting the company’s lasting bond with the city.
As Queen Anne embarks on her World Voyage, she carries forward Cunard’s legacy of connecting people, places, and cultures through the art of luxury cruising.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, expressed her excitement about the ship’s North America debut, stating: “Queen Anne represents the pinnacle of innovation, design, and hospitality for Cunard, and her arrival in New York is an historic milestone for our company. As we celebrate nearly two centuries of maritime excellence, Queen Anne ushers Cunard into a new era of luxury cruising and continues delivering unforgettable experiences that connect people and cultures around the globe. We are proud to contribute to the record-high1.5 million cruise passengers that travel to NYC bringing $500 million in local economic impact to New York.”
