Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands saw a strong start to 2025, welcoming 41,418 stayover visitors in January—a 7.7% increase year-over-year, making it the second-best January in recorded history, according to the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CIDOT).

Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism and Ports, Hon. Kenneth Bryan, celebrated the milestone, stating:

“January’s record numbers demonstrate the resilience of the Cayman Islands tourism industry, and we look forward to seeing an increase in visitation throughout 2025.”

U.S. Travel Demand Leads Growth, Boosted by Aviation Strategy

The United States remains the largest source market, with an 8.8% rise in visitor numbers from January 2024. The CIDOT’s dedicated aviation strategy, which includes partnerships with major airlines, contributed to the surge by increasing seat capacity from key U.S. cities.

  • Miami (American Airlines) and Boston (JetBlue) expanded services.
  • Chicago (United Airlines) and Orlando (Southwest Airlines) added more flights.
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul (Delta Airlines) introduced new seasonal routes.

The Cayman Islands government’s investment in geotargeted advertising campaigns in Q4 2024 played a key role in attracting U.S. travelers, aligning with the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) growth initiatives.

Canada Tourism Gains Momentum

Canada showed robust visitor growth of 10.3%, accounting for over 10% of total January arrivals. This increase aligns with Tourism Canada’s data on rising demand for warm-weather destinations during winter months.

UK, Europe, and Latin America: Mixed Trends

While North American markets saw growth, UK and Ireland visitor arrivals fell by 7.7%, and European arrivals declined by 6.6%. These decreases may reflect shifting travel patterns and economic factors impacting long-haul European travel.

Latin America posted a slight 1.2% increase, indicating steady demand despite economic fluctuations in the region.

Strategic Growth and Future Planning

Director of Tourism Mrs. Rosa Harris highlighted the Cayman Islands’ marketing success, emphasizing a strategic approach to rebuilding visitor confidence through targeted business development efforts.

“This achievement is a testament to our steady approach to increasing demand through marketing and aviation partnerships.”

The CIDOT continues to provide detailed statistical reports, ensuring data-driven decision-making for future tourism planning.

With strong momentum heading into 2025, the Cayman Islands remain a top Caribbean destination, leveraging aviation partnerships, strategic marketing, and sustainable tourism growth to attract record-breaking visitors.
